In short

Management information system (MIS) reporting is the monthly pack that tells business owners what actually happened: profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, and the handful of KPIs that drive the business. Access CFO closes the month, reconciles every control account, reviews the numbers at controller and CFO level, and delivers the pack by the 7th of the following month, with a variance commentary explaining what moved and why.

Why the 7th, and why it matters

A management pack that arrives on the 25th is a history lesson. By then the month it describes is nearly two months gone and every decision it could have informed has already been made on instinct.

The 7th is achievable for almost any SME, and it changes the character of the number: early enough that a margin slip in March can be corrected in April rather than discovered in June. Hitting it consistently is a process problem, not a talent problem — cut-offs enforced, reconciliations run continuously rather than at month end, and accruals estimated on a standing basis instead of chased.

What is in the pack

Every client’s pack is built around the same reconciled spine, then tailored to the handful of drivers that actually run their business.

  • Profit & loss — month and year-to-date, against budget and against the same month last year.
  • Balance sheet — with every control account reconciled, not just totalled.
  • Cash flow — actual movement, reconciled to the bank, plus the forward 13-week view.
  • KPI dashboard — gross margin by line, debtor and creditor days, inventory turns, revenue per head, and whatever else genuinely predicts your outcome.
  • Variance commentary — written in sentences. Not a table of differences, an explanation of them.
  • Exceptions — what is unreconciled, what is overdue, what needs a decision from you this month.

Reconciled, reviewed, and signed off

The value of an MIS pack collapses the first time someone finds a number in it that is wrong. So the pack passes two layers before it reaches you: the analyst prepares, the controller reconciles and reviews, and the CFO lead reads it as a business document before it is sent.

Bank balances tie to statements. Debtors and creditors tie to ageing. GST input credit ties to the portal. Inter-company and director accounts are reconciled every month rather than at year end. When your auditor arrives, most of their work has already been done.

Built for the people who read it

A pack for a founder, a pack for a board and a pack for a lender are three different documents built from one set of books. We produce whichever ones you need: a two-page founder summary, a full board pack with commentary, and the specific schedules your bank asks for in the format they want them.

Not sure this is where your problem actually is?

That is what the week-one diagnostic is for. We audit the books, the compliance position and the reporting, and hand you a written memo — yours to keep whether or not you engage us.

Questions we get about this.

Not in month one. Clearing a backlog is what weeks 2–3 of onboarding are for; the monthly rhythm starts once the foundation is clean, typically from day 30. We will tell you at diagnostic stage exactly how long your specific backlog will take.

Statutory financials are prepared annually for compliance, in a prescribed format, looking backward. MIS is prepared monthly for decisions, in whatever format is most useful to you. They reconcile to each other, but they exist for different readers.

Yes. Lender information formats, investor MIS templates and board pack structures are all standard requests. If they have a template, we fill theirs; if not, we propose one.

An analyst prepares, a named chartered accountant reconciles and reviews, and your CFO lead reads the pack before it is issued. Nothing reaches you having been seen by only one person.

No pitch. Just a diagnostic.

Thirty minutes. We’ll tell you exactly what your finance function is missing — free, either way.

If we’re not the right fit, you’ll still leave with a prioritised list of what to fix. That’s the worst-case outcome.
